How can the herbivores sleep, "if [we] must share / A ship with panther, tiger, bear!" Hooper's rhythmic verse is in turns suspenseful and humorous, and the animated watercolors show not-too-scary meat eaters hungrily eyeing their more defenseless shipmates. But when the storm outside the ark begins to rage, both "wild and tame" animals cower with fear. This is a lighthearted yet respectful companion to traditional retellings.
