Albert's pig pals tease him for being white, Lila's chicken peers ostracize her because she's too old to lay eggs, and the two bond over their outsider status. It's disappointing that in this story about discrimination, aged and female Lila has only a minor role in helping Albert outsmart a fox, but the book's clever plotting and playful illustrations demand attention.
