In this third entry, fifth-grade amateur sleuth PJ McGee attempts to find his stolen autographed hat. As usual, he completely misinterprets every clue but solves the mystery in the end. The story unfolds via illustrated letters PJ writes to his absent father, whom PJ believes is a private investigator. Wimpy Kid fans will enjoy the similar, if derivative, format and school-themed hijinks.
