Lynn Munsinger.
A child hightails it out of the city, away from the "scabby rats" and flea-bitten squirrels, to a tropical island--only to find "tons and tons of horrifying CROCS!" After some close calls, the protagonist becomes the crocodile king. The text seems geared to adults ("So you've...left the grubby city you deplore"), though children will enjoy the energetic illustrations and lively rhyme.
