Sarah Fox-Davies.
The poems in this posthumous collection evocatively delineate a pastoral, nostalgic conception of a peaceful winter with Christmas its centerpiece. The child-appealing focus on ordinary wonders like frost and footprints in the snow is matched by regular meters and rhyme schemes. Fox-Davies's soft-edged pencil and watercolor illustrations depict snowscapes populated by bundled-up children, along with occasional firelit indoor or muted nighttime scenes.
