After presenting general biographical information, Delbanco briefly introduces each story. A mini-glossary is included on every page, which, although helpful, is also visually distracting in this otherwise thoughtfully designed volume. DuBois's eerie, muted, murky illustrations adroitly capture the sinister atmosphere conjured by Poe's stories.
