When twelve-year-old Grace goes missing in an ocean storm, two bystanders--troubled teen Kip and burned-out rocker Ted--are sucked into the investigation while Grace's sister Annie deals with guilt and worry. Though the perspective rotates between Kip, Annie, and occasionally Grace, Kip's is the dominant voice, creating a distracting imbalance. Nevertheless, the ticking-clock tension makes for an absorbing read.
