Senior Brianna Pelletier doesn't want to be defined by having cystic fibrosis. The top-notch math student would rather "be strong, competent, genius-going-to-MIT Brianna" to her father and her friends (cheerleaders, a nerd, a ninth grader with CF, a calculus teacher). The story takes a while to hit its stride, but throughout, its teenage protagonist is heartbreakingly courageous in confronting her own mortality.
