Young Fred has his imaginary friends to keep him company. When he starts school and makes real friends, he has less time for his imaginary ones and eventually forgets them. He's reminded of them years later as a lonely adult, and "a light began to fill his heart." Seo's judiciously colored line art has kid appeal, but the story has an adult sensibility.
