George Washington's Teeth

(1) K-3 Illustrated by Brock Cole. This lighthearted rhymed account of the Revolution and Washington's presidency uses George's perpetual losing battle for his teeth as the focal point. The summary in the concluding timeline, derived from "letters, diaries, and accounts," is one of dreary, courageous struggle. The contrast is sobering; it might well provoke discussion of viewing the same events from different perspectives. Cole's caricatures are done with affection and spirit.
