The lion follows Iris and has many adventures, including inadvertently frightening village carolers and meeting Santa on a rooftop. Girl and lion's eventual happy reunion is satisfying but not pat: the lion eats all the Christmas dinner (but...there's always pizza!). The art's deadpan humor is balanced by its warmth and coziness.
