This book presents a cumulative folksong with pages cut progressively shorter, allowing previous verses to be visible as the song becomes more involved. The folk-art-like oil paintings show each animal with a distinct personality, but the book is a bit dark and suffers from a static feeling. Sturdy coated paper and spiral binding do make the book lap-friendly. Pete Seeger contributes a foreword and sings on the accompanying CD.
