The adulatory volume then retraces Kennedy's rise to political greatness, focusing on his "'charisma,' the power to inspire and excite people." Winter's personal affection for his subject is obvious, but that adds some emotional impact. Ford's realistic paintings present a glossy picture of American "royalty."
