This reissue of the 1946 Newbery Honor book tells of the first Morgan horse--small but strong with plenty of personality--and the boy who loves him. Vermont in 1791, and the young country, are characters here, as well. America, like the Morgan horse, is small but determined. The paintings use light to express strong emotions.
