(3) 4-6 Translated by Alberto Jiménez Rioja. Illustrated by Jules Feiffer. To translate a book as dependent upon English wordplay as The Phantom Tollbooth would seem a daunting task. Rioja's translation manages at the same time to be both readable and clever. The deft handling of some of Juster's rhymes and unusual character names, such as the Mathemagician becoming el Matemago, is particularly impressive.
