In this trilogy-ender, emotion-enabled android Mila and programming genius Lucas seek both a way to defuse Mila's implanted explosive and answers about the human girl she's meant to replicate. Mila realizes that Lucas truly accepts her; their blossoming romance heightens the conclusion's poignancy. Though Mila's tendency to wallow in guilt can slow the pace, the suspense is absorbing and the technological/ethical issues explored are intriguing.
