Genteel (and nearsighted) Miss Jaster never notices the hedgehog she sprinkles with flower seeds as she plants her garden. "I'm in bloom!" Hedgie cries one day and dances out of the garden. Miss Jaster enlists the help of a constable to retrieve her runaway flowers; eventually she and Hedgie become friends. Accompanied by illustrations washed with soft colors, this gently humorous story retains an appealingly old-fashioned sensibility.
