Never Fear, Snake My Dear!

(4) K-3 Translated by J. Alison James. In a new take on the old folktale device of "don't eat me and I'll help you," a mouse aids a snake in escaping from a zoo in exchange for not becoming her lunch. Siegenthaler's insouciant mouse and electric green polka-dotted snake are depicted with panache in humorous watercolors, but his overlong and predictable story lacks the same verve.
