The girls are disappointed when their “new friend” seemingly disappears later in fall, but they move on to their “next adventure”; a final illustration shows their friend has reemerged in the spring as a tiger moth. Arthur effectively captures how children’s interests wax and wane. Her detailed illustrations do a particularly good job of depicting the girls’ expressive faces.
