A loud "Peep!" awakens Possum from his warm winter slumber, so he sets out to find the noisemaker. Soon two curious catbirds, a grumpy bear, and a muskrat join the search, and they finally find the culprit: a tiny frog trumpeting the arrival of spring. The watercolor and ink illustrations fairly vibrate with the peeper's celebratory message, "Build your nests and clean your burrows! It's spring! It's spring!"
