An ambitious first novel postulates English migration to America in the 1520s. Lily's parents have been harboring a rebel cleric when her father, a "religious protester," is abducted and sent to the New World. Hoping to find him, Lily and her mother sail after him. Chibbaro has done her historical homework well. This engrossing adventure is both beautifully written and thought provoking.
