Readers will find pleasure in guessing the rhymes ("Hammy's brand-new hat / was swapped for a...")--easy enough until the thief steals someone's orange and replaces it with "ummm...splorange?" The billboard-bright cartoonish illustrations of goggle-eyed blob-creatures are droll but have a hastily executed look.
