4-6Tales from Shakespeare series.
Retold by C. A. Plaisted.
Illustrated by
Yaniv Shimony.
These modern-language retellings of Shakespeare's plays mix a lively tone (suitable only for the two comedies) with expressive line drawings. Plaisted does an admirable job sustaining the intricate plots and numerous characters despite the constraints of brevity. Although no substitution for the originals, these volumes would be fine vehicles for introducing the plays to young readers prior to watching a performance. Review covers these Tales from Shakespeare titles: Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet, and The Tempest..
