Saffy's parents, both painters, spend all their time in their separate studios; the four children are left to themselves for just about everything. Then Grandfather dies, and Saffy's left an angel in his will. Where is it? Saffy needs to know so she'll understand who she really is. Unlikely event follows unlikely event in search of the conclusion, but McKay makes you care very much about the whole thing--the people, the place, the outcome.
