Sergio's excitement about a coming hurricane abates when he realizes the storm's seriousness. The appealing main character, the well-crafted story line, and the colorful gouache images are effective. Wallner's gentle tale about a San Juan family surviving the storm gives the subject the weight it deserves without being didactic or sensational. The book ends with facts about hurricanes.
