Bartholomew likes many things about his apple tree. "But best of all he loves counting the red apples.. . ." In a side panel on each double-page spread, Miller tallies the apples as they turn from green to red. Her expressive black line lends spontaneity to the simple illustrations. Despite an error ("one red apples"), this is another agreeable encounter with the young bear.
