This jaunty little story plays with the conventions of a book by having its protagonist, appropriately named the Character in the Book, try to escape the pages so he can visit his aunt, a character in another book. Illustrated in a style fondly reminiscent of Margot Zemach's, the author's mother, the Character's modest adventures have an agreeable coziness as well as energy.
