The Debutante

(4) YA Annie is devastated that her family is moving from Connecticut to Beaufort, Alabama, for her senior year--plus, her overbearing grandmother is forcing her to make her formal debut. Unsurprisingly, however, she finds friends, romance, and self-awareness, and learns to appreciate being a "deb." Annie's whining gets excessive, but the book's depiction of place, community, and social tradition is compelling.
