This picture book begins after a funeral, as a mother and son head to the attic of a house. Readers eventually learn that Nana has died, and we observe as objects prompt the pair’s memories, especially the titular baby swing. The sensitively told story allows children to reach their own conclusions about the characters’ emotions and the role of memory in the grieving process. Mellow illustrations in watercolor and ink use occasional panels to good effective to highlight each meaningful object.
