K-3
Illustrated by
Adam McCauley.
Sammy smuggles his detested lima beans outside to bury them, and soon all the neighborhood kids are burying unwanted vegetables in the same vacant lot. Then a freak storm transforms the mound into the Lima Bean Monster, and the kids can defeat him only by eating him. Seeing the kids munch on the oozing beast in the comic illustrations might turn more stomachs than actual vegetables do, but readers will eat up this over-the-top tale.
