After moving to the podunk town of Hoodoo, Oregon, Ronnie befriends her precocious ten-year-old neighbor, Karen. When Ronnie finds Karen's body and learns she was murdered, the heartbroken teen systematically scours for clues. Beaufrand has a knack for scene-setting, and her characters are nicely realized. Plenty of suspense and a good-guy/bad-guy romantic subplot make for a riveting read.
