After the death of Evie's mother, Aunt Flo comes to live with Evie's family in rural Minnesota. Evie's aunt not only helps out with the family chores, she also helps the local community as a shrouding woman--attending to the dead and preparing the corpse for burial. Despite stock characters and a somewhat predictable conclusion, the story is worthwhile for its illumination of a little-discussed historical subject.
