Before winter sets in, Noi's dad (The Storm Whale) heads out one last time to fish. When Dad doesn't return home by nightfall, a worried Noi searches for him. Davies holds Noi's anxiety at bay in both the warm-toned illustrations and gentle text. The resolution (Noi's whale friends return and lead him to his father) is a titch too neat but a welcome relief.
