The Sun's Daughter

(2) K-3 Illustrated by R. Gregory Christie. As long as the Sun's daughter, Maize, walks the earth, abundance prevails. But when cold, lonely Silver lures Maize underground, the wrathful Sun abandons earth. Sherman's original tale, inspired by Iroquois Corn Maiden stories, has a nice lilt and flow, making it appropriate for reading aloud. Christie's sweeping strokes of paint capture the joy of creation and renewal.
