The Tale of a No-Name Squirrel

(4) 4-6 Illustrated by Audrey Benjaminsen. Squirrel, a slave, receives an invitation to a posh wedding, which launches him on a riddle-fueled quest for his name and freedom. While many conventions of the animal-fantasy genre are well incorporated, some elements oppose the intrinsic logic. Still, genre fans will enjoy the atmospheric all-animal world, pictured in stately charcoal illustrations, and a story-related crossword puzzle adds interest. A sequel feels inevitable.
