Literary license helps recast a mysterious incident from British history. After King Edward IV's death, his brother Richard, Duke of Gloucester, locks Edward's sons in the Tower of London. The daughter of a tower guard overhears Richard plotting against his nephews and helps them escape. Oil paintings convey the drama and danger of this spare story that, despite an author's note, may leave readers confused about the real history.
