Thirteen Chairs

(2) YA Twelve strangers tell ghost stories by candlelight. A thirteenth--Jack, who gate-crashes the gathering--waits for his turn. As the tellers finish, they blow out their candles until only Jack is left, by then certain that the stories are real. The tales' diverse subjects and varied voices keep the pace moving along, while the common theme (the dead seeking retribution) provides low-key chills.
