In this large, handsome book, Ward offers expanded versions of a dozen fables, including a few less familiar ones. Her witty, sophisticated language makes for enjoyable reading, though some of the tales could benefit from extra editing. The strategically positioned text, with its varying typefaces, is as much a part of the eye-catching design as the beautiful ink and watercolor paintings.
