Horn Book Herald: December 2024

With this issue of The Horn Book Herald, I’d like to direct your attention back to the November/December Horn Book Magazine and its warm, tranquil cover. If that doesn’t say “aspirational family holiday bliss,” I don’t know what does! The following illustrated titles — seven picture books and one YA graphic novel — spotlight the love and complexity of family through various holiday observances, cultural understandings, intergenerational learning, and the comfort that can come from simply being together. See also our annual Holiday High Notes and Fanfare best books selections; read Five Questions for Wicked author Gregory Maguire; and preview the January/February 2025 Horn Book Magazine with strikingly vivid cover art by Charly Palmer.
