Horn Book Herald: September 2025

In time for spooky book displays, we have a treat for you in this issue of The Horn BOO Herald: thirteen titles featuring monsters, zombies, ghosts, witches, vampires — and a Stephen King/Maurice Sendak collab. We will have more Halloween books to recommend later in October...stay tombed!

The September issue of Notes from the Horn Book has lots of recommended titles for all ages, including some school-set novels and novels in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Latine/x Heritage Month (September 15 through October 15). The September/October issue of The Horn Book Magazine is out, with newly inaugurated National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature Mac Barnett's speech at the Library of Congress (and his Q&A with then–Librarian of Congress, Dr. Carla Hayden — see also Librarians with Superpowers).
