When a storm knocks out the electricity, Chris and Erin can't figure out what to do without the television. At their grandfather's suggestion, they make up some funny programs and dramatize them for the rest of the family, realizing that they can have fun without TV. The easy format and cartoony illustrations will attract readers not put off by the predictable story.

(3) 1-3 First Choice Chapter Book series. Illustrated by Janet Pedersen. In these four short chapter tales of sibling squabbling, Jake is tired of his copycat little brother Pete, but the two manage to get along (and even have some fun) in spite of their differences. Pedersen's crayon and watercolor illustrations emphasize the pleasure the siblings take in each other's company despite their warring words.

This slight chapter book features two curious and mischievous bear cubs who meddle with a young boy and his family during their camping trip in the woods. Although the book features a silly plot, readers will enjoy knowing the source of the mischief before the parents do. Color cartoon illustrations accompany the short chapters.
