Raised by exuberant and unconventional parents, educators Mildred and Patty Hill brought their love of play to the Louisville Experimental School in Kentucky. A greeting song the sisters wrote for their kindergartners eventually became "Happy Birthday." The overwritten text tells the story of this well-known tune; somewhat awkward illustrations establish the late-nineteenth-century setting.
