Fashion designer Lucy Tanaka takes center stage in this second warmhearted installment about middle schoolers who form a club to perform acts of kindness. While her father is preoccupied with the foundering family bowling alley, Lucy tries to plan a party for a classmate who recently lost her mother. Well-rounded characters, authentic middle-school dialogue, and a light-handed message about empathy keep the story engaging.

At a new school after her parents' divorce, fifth grader Chloe is unsure whether to ally herself with the popular girls or with her quirky science partners. What starts as an experiment on the effects of kindness spreads into all areas of Chloe's life, including her father's new relationship. Chloe's dilemmas feel authentic and the characters are well developed in this warmhearted series-starter.
