After a "crafty, clever" snake steals Saint Patrick's bell, observant mouse Tulla follows the snake back to its lair. She then gets her brothers, and together the three mice bravely reclaim the bell so Saint Patrick can finish his job of driving snakes from Ireland. Though the illustrations can be stiff, their shadows and shading add tension to the mice's nighttime rescue effort.

St. Patrick helps create the Loch Ness Monster in this hybrid tale. He charms all of Ireland's snakes into the sea, except for one sneaky red one, which he locks in a box and sinks into Loch Ness, where it grows and grows. Droll mixed-media illustrations of the face-off between wily snake and determined saint carry off this ridiculous tall tale.
