Pig in a Wig Book series.
The Pig in a Wig and her animal friends prepare to play in a band. But when Mouse startles Elephant, the "story needs...to get back on track." Abrupt ending aside, the rhyming narrative's rhythm and onomatopoeia match the energetic plot at each turn. Digitally painted charcoal sketches provide visual clues to aid in decoding and add humor through the characters' facial expressions.

Pig in a Wig Book series.
"What this story needs is a pig in a wig, / rushing to her car, / dashing into place, / ready to start the cross-country race." As in other series entries, sentences stretch across multiple pages, giving brand-new readers plenty of space to decode. Pig's facial expressions and shifting visual angles ratchet up the drama, but the race's outcome is a bit of a dud.

Pig in a Wig Book series.
Noisy animals impose upon red-wig-sporting Pig's bedtime until she sends them away one by one (Hush). Pig unpacks for a picnic, then repacks when it rains (Munch). Each rhyming text follows a predictable pattern and incorporates repetition to support beginning readers. Digitally painted charcoal sketches add mild humor, but Virján's first Pig in a Wig book contained more quirky, kid-pleasing details. Review covers the following titles: What This Story Needs Is a Hush and a Shush and What This Story Needs Is a Munch and a Crunch.
