In the graphic novel adaptation of the first title in Sutherland's popular fantasy series, the illustrations translate rather than enhance the original story. Still, they have some clever moments, and a dynamic panel layout should keep pages turning.

(3) 4-6 Wings of Fire series. In this tenth installment, evil dragon Darkstalker is wreaking havoc and inciting conflict all over Pyrrhia. Meanwhile, SandWing Qibli faces his tragic upbringing, his feelings for NightWing Moonwatcher, and his desire for magic powers. Modern dialogue and moral questions combine seamlessly with the fantasy elements, which should draw in both newbies and existing series fans. A map and an illustrated dragon guide are included.

She seeks to redeem her reputation by taking out the queen who once used her as a killer and discovers family along the way. Some humor and accessible contemporary dialogue temper the epic-fantasy setting while the hotheaded dragon navigates many dramas on her quest for vengeance.

(3) 4-6 Wings of Fire: Legends series. Drama, magic, and fated romance weave through narratives from a trio of uniquely gifted young dragons. When they believe they've discovered their true destiny, another potential future appears, and the dragonets learn the right choice isn't always easy to discern. This prequel to the Wings of Fire series features intriguingly complex characters, with snarky contemporary-feeling dialogue adding interest for young fantasy fans.

One promising student, Moonwatcher, begins to discover her own secret powers and must decide if she should use them when the academy is threatened. Devoted fans of the series will enjoy new characters in this sixth continuation.

Not only are they confronted with more adversity, but they also have to deal with typical adolescent trials--growing up dragon isn't easy. Fast-paced, thrilling, and a bit violent, book two leaves enough intrigue for future volumes. A map and illustrated dragon guide are included.

Though the RainWings are not at war with other kingdoms, the dragonets soon discover that RainWings are mysteriously disappearing. Fierce battles and menacing characters are tempered by humor and the appealing dragonets. A cliffhanger ending ensures more to come. A map and illustrated dragon guide are included.
