After the Kill

(2) K-3 Illustrated by Catherine Stock. In this blunt portrayal of animal life in the Serengeti, a lioness stalks and kills a zebra. Vultures, hyenas, jackals, and meat-eating beetles arrive until all that remains of the zebra is bones. Given the topic's inherent grisliness, the text is notably matter-of-fact. The pictures, expansive horizontal spreads, are almost impressionistic, focusing more on the predators' ferocity than details of their prey.
