When Marmalade has her kittens backstage at the theater, the ballerinas adopt them. The kittens cause havoc on opening night, but are allowed to stay when they become the talk of the town. This fictional story is illustrated with Degas-influenced paintings, and he is an unnamed peripheral character. An endnote gives some information about him and reproduces one of his paintings.
