Captain

(3) YA Billy Bayliss, fifteen, lies about his age to join the British army during WWI. At Gallipoli, Billy's youth leaves him unprepared for war's brutalities, but a friendship with a fourteen-year-old refugee boy/fellow soldier "Captain" (and Captain's donkey Hey-Ho) helps Billy through the psychological trauma. Reminiscent of Michael Morpurgo's works, this middle-school historical novel tactfully explores wartime bonds (both human and animal).
