Just Kids: Visiting a Class for Children with Special Needs

(4) 4-6 In this fictional story, when Cindy makes fun of a student in the "retard class," the principal arranges for Cindy to help in the special needs classroom. As she learns about the students' challenges, Cindy gains more understanding about their disabilities and about what they can do. Color photos and a thorough text, which occasionally lapses into cliches, introduce readers to a range of disabilities and the professionals who work with special needs students. An afterword provides more details. Bib.
